St Ethelwold's House

Welcome to the website of St Ethelwold House, an Open Spiritual Centre in the middle of Abingdon. The house is run by the Fellowship of St Ethelwold, a charitable trust.

St Ethelwold’s House is a place of ‘prayer, rest and recreation’. It offers a haven of peace and tranquillity in a beautiful building in the centre of Abingdon dating back to the 14th century. It has a lovely garden leading down to the River Thames.

The Trust’s purpose is to support people on their personal journeys by providing opportunities for spiritual refreshment, reflection and growth.

This is done in two ways by offering:

  • Spiritual Activities Programme and Retreats
The Trust coordinates a regular programme of spiritual events and activities in the house - see Programme.

It also offers the house and garden to individuals and small groups to organise their own quiet days and short residential retreats throughout the year - see Retreats.

  • Attractive Day and Residential Accommodation for Public Use
The Trust offers for public hire its attractive Function Rooms for exhibitions, conferences, meetings etc and for social and family occasions, such as wedding receptions, family parties - see Function Rooms.

The house also has 10 bedrooms and a self-contained flat and offers Bed and Breakfast accommodation for booking by the public - see Bed and Breakfast.
